In the year 20X5, The Space Pirates attack a Galactic Federation research vessel and seize samples of the parasitic lifeforms known as Metroids-- a powerful lifeform created by the Chozo, planning on using them to as biological weapons to destroy all who oppose them. After a failed attempt to strike at their base of operations located on Zebes, a lone bounty hunter known as Samus Aran is chosen to infiltrate the base and destroy the leader of the Space Pirates, Mother Brain.
Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System on August 6th, 1986. A remake known as Metroid: Zero Mission was released for the Gameboy Advance on Fbruary 9th, 2004.
Fun fact: Metroid is considered to have the first female protagonist in gaming, which was kept secret from most players, even those who have read the instruction manual! The only way to find out was to beat the game as quickly as possible!
After Samus Aran foiled the plans of the Space Pirates to use Metroids for their own evils, the Galactic Federation; concerned by the power of the Metroids, attempted to wipe out the species on it's homeworld of SR388. However, after the teams sent disappeared on the planet, Samus Aran is contracted to finish the mission. Originally released on the Gameboy on November, 1991. A remake with enhancements to the gameplay & an expanded story was released for the Nintendo 3DS on September 15th, 2017.
Fun fact: The creators of the remake, MercurySteam, whom had worked on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, were originally planning on remaking Metroid Fusion!
After Samus Aran brings the last Metroid to the Ceres Space Colony and it's discovered that its power can be used for the good of civilization, the Space Pirates-- having recovered from their prior defeat on Zebes, capture the last Metroid and bring it back to their reconstructed base on planet Zebes. Samus Aran gives chase, encountering a much larger base than before, with more dangers to be encountered...
Originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System on April 18th, 1994.
Fun fact: Super Metroid is considered to be one of the best video games of all time, having established the Metroidvania genre in full, as well as becoming immensely popular among speedrunners!
